Acevedo to remain in Austin

It is fantastic news that Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo is staying in Austin. Acevedo has withdrawn his name from the Dallas finalist for Police Chief. Acevedo said that he belongs to Austin, and follows his heart. Acevedo has been in Austin for almost three years and is credited for various improvements in the Austin Police Department. Everyone from top Austin officials to Community leaders greeted his decision. His leadership is highly appreciated by everyone. City Manager Ott released the report, regarding Acevedo’s decision to stay in Austin where he has said, Acevedo's commitment to transparency and accountability has made the Austin Police Department one of the best managed forces in the nation.” Mayor Lee said, “He has done a service to the community; he has done a lot for the police force.”

It is not known if he received the formal offer from Dallas, but it is said that he had been negotiating salary and other employment terms. He has clearly indicated that the decision to apply for the position of Dallas Police Chief was not a sign of his dissatisfaction with the police department. When Dallas officials said in March that Acevedo was one of the six finalists for the Dallas Chief Position, the announcement had incited speculation that he might use the Dallas Offer to booster his salary. However, after remaining four days in Dallas finalist, he announced to quit and stay in Austin. Acevedo said that he enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to interview where he met chief officers and union representatives. In addition, he said he has not been for Austin in a full three years yet. However, citizens of Austin see him remarkably well.

Whatever reason he had behind announcing to be among the six finalists in the Position of Dallas Officer and withdrawing again, we appreciate that he has made up his desire to stay in Austin. He has been able to win the heart of Austin People in extremely short time through his moral and secure judgments and efforts. Many chief officers have appreciated his works and efforts to serve better. Finally, we got our Police Chief back in Austin, which is excellent news for everyone.
